Roger Black experienced a piston failure on the 455 engine in his \'77 Birchaven and swapped the broken engine for a 403 from a donor coach. The harmonic balancer on the 403 engine was broken, the bond between the rubber and the outer ring had failed. The outer ring had rotated and slipped rearward toward the timing cover.
