Converting to electric choke takes MORE than just replacing the element and wiring the choke into the ignition.
The "manifold tube heated" choke housing uses a controlled vacuum leak to suck filtered, hot air from the heat tube in the manifold into the housing past the bi-metal strip controlling the choke linkage. The electric choke housing is heated by the element and the air flow will make it less effective by cooling the housing.
When using an Electric choke in this housing the vacuum leak should be blocked. There is a plastic alignment fitting (seal) under one of the legs mounting the housing to the carburetor. Simply plug the hole in the fitting with a bit of epoxy or a very small screw and reassemble the housing. I drive in an aluminum wire slightly larger than the hole in the plastic. Once the heat tube is removed and abandoned, put a disk of aluminum to block off that fitting as well. Finally, plug off (Cap) the carb fitting at the airhorn to ensure unfiltered air cannot get into the carb.
When installing the electric choke element, do not use the gasget that was there originally for two reasons. 1- the housing is no longer under vacuum and 2- the element uses the housing for it's ground, and the gasget will insulate the ground
