Once I unscrewed the door strap off of the panel I realized that the end caps pull off. The strap is all metal. I see no reason that this strap can\'t be rebuilt. Even with larger more substantial screws/bolts and atleast 2 screws per side and a backing plate. This piece is definitely restorable. If your upholstered strap is not centered on the metal strap it can be slid one way or the other. You could even, and probably should, use some glue to hold it in place on the metal strap.
