After much looking I found what appears to be the visual difference between a 5 degree bead seat and a 15 degree bead seat rim. 15 degree seats are used in “commercial” applications, currently on larger rims than ours, but where available in 16.5 inch (and smaller) sizes at one time.
I do not know how widespread the problem is, but you should not be mixing 15 degree rims with most current (5 degree) tires. I believe this is a separate issue to the radial / non-radial rated rim issue.
It looks like if you have the crease in the bead seat, you have the 5 degree bead seat rims.
