A strip of PVC levels the floor over the joist.
Over the aluminum joist I only needed 1/8" thick cover, so a piece of ABS worked there. Polyurethane caulk beneath, in all joints, and on top seals it thoroughly. I sprayed several coats of bed liner over this to prevent water penetration in the future.
