Mitchell Cavern

4300' up on Providence Mountian is Mitchell Caverns in the Mojave desert. There is a campgound there with 6 spaces. The 2 on top are good for motorhomes. $12 a night plus towd. The Cavern has tours and you may need reservations at popular times of the year. Reservation are available at 9 am the morning of the tour. http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=615 We overnited here in April and incured 80 to 90 mph winds throughout the night. Actually lifted the coach wheels off the ground on one side several times through the night. The next moring it rained, sleeted, then snowed and then a full scale hail storm. Who would have ever thought you have that kind of experience in the desert? of all places. Definately not for the faint of heart during "servere" weather conditions. However I recommend this location great adventure.
