This is Boldt Castle on Heart Island near the town of Alexandria Bay. George Boldt, millionaire proprietor of the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City built this summer home for his wife and children. Construction began in 1900, but in 1904 Boldt\'s wife died suddenly and he ordered all construction to stop. The castle remained empty for 73 years. In 1977 the Thousand Island Bridge Authority assumed ownership and began it\'s restoration.
