Probably the easiest way to tap into the VW lights is going to be right in front. This is the left side connector. The left side is a Black/white wire. Here you would tap the yellow trailer wire in. There is also a ground screw that you could attach the white trailer ground wire to. The running lights is a light gray wire. You would tap the brown trailer wire into that.
