HEI_Wire_07

This is the engine side of the firewall "Thru-wall" connector behind the fuse box (which is behind the glove box). The fuse box itself is not directly connected to to this connector. It is simply in front of it. (see previous picture)
The stripped wire is the 18ga Ignition 12V source wire headed to the resistance wire. The wire on the mating connector (dash side) coming directly from the ignition switch is actually a 12ga pink wire. It is this wire on the engine side that needs to be upgraded for the HEI. (A 12ga wire from this connector to the HEI Distributor) Unfortunatley it is just about impossible to get new metalic inserts for this connector body. (I have no idea where to get them) Therefore it will be stripped almost to the connector and a new 12ga wire braided and soldered in. Basically we will be adding a wire the same size as the red wire you see.


You will have to clean away some of the goo at the body that ensures weather tightness and avoids corrosion. Once the bolt you see is removed, those bodies can be removed, and disconnected from the firewall connector
