Here is an overall view of the bike carrier upper support angle bracket. One of the key considerations is the bike carrier itself. How far the carrier protrudes from the bumper will affect how the final strategy evolves to mounting the upper part of the carrier. My intent was to tension the top of the carrier to ensure it also stays tight in the hitch receiver at the bottom. Remember my first priority is to eliminate rattles. I will later need to ensure the vertical member to protrude enough to miss the upper cross member and allow for tensioning. You could however align them and solidly bolt the cross member. But that would require tools. Again, I wanted things to be easy and convenient with minimal tools. Right now I only need a small stick (or butter knife) and a wheel wrench. Keep in mind that the frame and the body actually move slightly to each other, so a solid connection will cause problems. That being said, however, the spare tire mount is already mounted directly to the frame.
